This Bookworm Lives to Ride (and Rides to Live)

3/30/2021

After 25 years of being a teacher, Melanie Moore went dream chasin’. She took the 1962 Volkswagen pickup truck sitting in her driveway, painted it turquoise, filled the bed with hand-picked books, threw a vintage tarp on top, and started Cincy Book Bus...

In addition to not having to pay rent, one cool part about being mobile is that it’s easy to partner up with other businesses. When this book-store-on-wheels is not wheeling around the streets of Cincinnati, you can find it parked at niche cafés, local markets, or eclectic coffee shops. Loyal bookworms get introduced to new spots while others get the chance to snag a new book after their daily coffee. It’s the best of both worlds.

Even though she’s no longer a teacher, Moore still does everything for the children. Her mission is to get books into the hands of those who need it most. All proceeds are used to buy children’s books for classrooms in rough neighborhoods so that inner-city kids can have access to the joy of reading.

Moore has the best Instagram page around town. There are fire book recommendations, updates on the where the bus will be next, pictures of smiling 6th graders, and candid photos of what we all want to see, the Book Bus. Go check it out and follow
@cincybookbus.
