Larry David tried it all before finding something he really loved doing: comedy. When you were a little kid, you probably dreamed of becoming something like an astronaut, firefighter, vet, or even a president. Young Larry David probably dreamed of professions like that too, but his mom had a different dream for him: a mailman for the US postal service. Honestly, it’s a great career. It has job security, a government pension, and it’s not dangerous (save the occasional aggressive dog). After graduating from the University of Maryland with a major in History, Larry ended up doing everything except delivering mail. He joined the Army Reserves. Then, he worked as a private chauffeur, taxi driver, historian, and even a bra salesman. It seemed like he was never going to find his path. But from all these different experiences came a bunch of stories—funny stories. And he was good at telling them, so he decided to try his hand as a comedian. Eventually he was hired as a writer for SNL. Get this. He quit the job within the first year. The thing is, three days later he came back to work and acted like nothing happened. Nobody questioned anything. Real life scenarios like this from Larry David served as inspiration for his comedy. Larry David says he was exceptionally terrible at everything in life, but he was able to joke about it. Thus, he was able to leverage his below-average experiences for incredible success. Later, he teamed up with Jerry Seinfeld and co-created the hit show Seinfeld, where he based the character of George Constanza on all of his shortcomings. Seinfeld went on for 9 seasons. Then, came another hit show: Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which Larry stars as himself. The show's great (worth the watch—check it out on HBO). Curb Your Enthusiasm is still running. The 11th season is going to be released sometime soon. Larry David built a rumored close-to-a-billion-dollar empire (before his divorce). And he still continues to create and write.
